How long untill brakes rotors fell grippy again after changing them?

I just replaced all 4 rotors and pads. I used OEM rotors and Hawk HPS pads (I didnt like the dust on the OEM ones).

The brakes dont feel nearly as grippy as before, is there a certain break in period untill they start feeling grippy again? I did the proper bedding process, but i got a feeling the pads are not getting full contact yet.

You 100% sure you followed the correct brake in procedures? I'm not familiar with the HPS pads, are they supposed to have better grippyness to them over OEM? :dunno:

Yes, i have done it on other BMWs. This is nothing new to me besides doing it on my car. My freind said he didnt notice a difference until after a couple hundred miles. Hawk HPS should be equivalent or slightly better with less dust. Dont get me wrong, the car STOPs, just not as grippy as I would expect. Then again, i could be wrong.

Your rotors may still have the 'old' OEM material on the surface, thus the braking isn't yet up to 100%.

IIRC people talk about "better brake modulation" with the HPS pads. My interpretation of that is that there may well be a more gradual brake engagement. I've never driven a car with the same brakes as mine with the HPS pads so I couldn't tell you from my own experience.

I think you may be right. The initial push on the OEM pads had more bite, but the HPS have more of a gradual bite, but when i want the car to stop, they do seem to have much more stopping power now. I will see how the brakes perform in a couple hundred miles.

When I switched to the HPS pads, I did notice that they do not exhibit the same amount of initial BITE as teh stock pads, especially when cold. However, they have a lot more stopping power. It's just not on the initial grab. And they resist fade much better than stock.

Once you get used to them, if you ever go drive a BMW equipped with the stock pads, you'll find them to be unnaturally grabby.

Thjey are great pads.

I changed rotors and pads, everything new.
Oh yeah! duh!

Hmm... well, then it could be that brake modulation issue. Initial bite isn't as important as good braking power at moderate to severe brakings.

Pagid Orange have lowsy cold biting power, but once up to temp they are very grippy. On the flip side, they don't release easily so you have to learn how to ease off the brake pedal otherwise they just let go too fast.

Yep, like the guys said, HPS will feel less powerful at first. They will resist fade a lot better though, than the OEM Jurids or Pagids.

HPS will dust though, a lot. And the dust gets "sticky" after rains, so wash it off. My buddy runs them on his WRX and generally likes them, but has the dusting problem as well as slight sqealing after the pads got 50% worn... :dunno:
