Is mid 40s too old for a 3 series?

We have a large SUV. We need a mid size car for running around town and commute. We originally looked at the 5 series. But we found that 08 and 09 5 series' safty rating is very marginal. 3 series has much better ratings. Our only concern is whether mid 40s are too old for this type of car.

Another question, does 3 series wagon look more mature than a 4 dr sedan?

From this, it looks like you need to wait a few years. You're too young now.

Seriously...I was 44 when I bought my first BMW two years ago. I love my car, and I don't give a damn what the demographics say.

Get the car you and your family deem the best fit and don't worry about what others think. Like the old saying goes, "Those who care don't matter and those who matter don't care."

Just make sure you don't wear your baseball hat sideways. :D

The average age of a Harley-Davidson customer is 47.3, so it's possible that you're not yet old enough to buy a 3 series.

I hope not - I just finished my 2nd ED fro a 3 series - 330 sedan then 335 sedan :yikes:

I'll be driving a 3er when I'm 80! Don't put a lot of stock in those 5er safety "ratings". The 5er is an exceptionally safe car. Spend some time in the 5er forum and search "wreck" and "accident" and such. You'll find that 5ers do an excellent job protecting their owners. But, don't let that keep you from getting a 3er. :)

I am 40 and drive 335i sedan with 2 kids in the back seat. Go for it. You're not that old. If you were 65 I would tell you to buy a Buick.
Wagon is not any more 'mature' IMO.
I hope you're kidding, 'cause I'd tell you just what you could do with that Buick!! :p

More proof that Buick is in trouble. Their existing clientele is dying off and I haven't met anybody currently under 60 (better make that 65) that wants one...

Unless you have small children, don't get the wagon. But 3-series in general, hell yeah!

You are never too old .

Get the 3 Series. My wife and I are both 56, and are having a great time with our new
335i. We almost have 2000 fun miles on it. We thought our 2006 330i was a kick, and this one is even more fun to drive  Go For It !

Can someone please tell me what age has to do with what kind of car you drive? When I was in my thirties, I saw a white-haired granny in a screaming red 'vette. (yes, really!) She peeled off at the green light and I thought: 'I wanna be just like that.' (but in a Gallardo)

In my opinion, age shouldn't dictate whether a 3 series or other car fits your lifestyle. Look at the total package including driving dynamics, interior & cargo space, design and ergonomics. If it meets your criteria, buy it.

Now if you were to purchase a modded Civic that rode 1/2" from the ground, I probably would change my opinion.

Go for the bimmer! Who cares what anyone else thinks? They are probably wrong anyway! (except in this case...kinda screwed myself there!)

Just drive it like you mean it...passing a bimmer doing 10 below the speed limit on an open road is heart wrenching - if you look closely, you can see tears coming from the headlight washers!

I'm retired, 63, have a few bucks and, most importantly, I'm still alive. I enjoy playing with my little 328i. Then again as we all know, mental illness is rampant out here! Perhaps I lost my mind one day nearly 40 years ago when I got a F4J Phantom II to crack Mach two?
My ex-brother-in-law flew one of those. In fact he missed my wedding in January '68 because his squadron secretly flew to Korea as a result of the Pueblo incident. Later on I got to "fly" one in the simulator at his AFB in NC. Great plane at the time. Almost as much fun as my 3 Series. ;)

I can't believe these kind of questions :)
