I noticed after driving with the engine off or even while in park with the engine on after driving the exhaust area make loud pinging noises....is this normal on your guys 6'ers?

One suspects if you are hearing pinging that the source has to do with thermal contraction as the exhaust system/tubing is cooling off.

I would be either getting it up on jack stands after an enthusiastic run and having a look with a flashlight on a creeper under the car, or if you are not quite mechanically inclined and it's still under warranty, then next time you find an opportunity to run it by your dealer to have a SA have a listen, and maybe get it up on the lift.

It's possible you either picked up something from the road (branch, debris, whatever) that's somehow stuck somewhere, or perhaps one of the heat shields is bent or out of place or indeed disconnected if a key bolt or fastening has dropped off.

Most cars will have some pinging from the exhaust system that's probably normal as the pipes cooled off; if this sound is out of the ordinary in your experience with the car it's probably worth checking out.

Whatever pinging you hear is just the exhaust cooling down, I hear it every day, specially if I was driving for a long time. No worries.

Pinging is like clicking sounds JESMAL, you hear things like.... Click... click click.....click.......click click click .... lool :D as if metal parts are clicking together.

Thanks TBAL, that clear it up for me. Yeah, the exhaust clicking noise is pretty normal. I hear that all the time after a couple of hot laps.

Yeah, Sunny, that 7er looks hot with those factory wheels. Good choice.
Hello ? no thanks for me ? I did the explanation and clicking noise :p loool

maybe the 6 just gets hotter quicker... the exhaust that is? Maybe benz does a better job on insulating/isolating the sound?

Exhaust Clicking

Thank you for all your post...so happy that it's not just me. That clicking sound on the back passenger side is driving me crazy. It happens when I shut the engine down or idle like at a drive through. It's loud and its every single time. It annoys me too much to sit and time how long it last. Aside from the fact that people look at me like I might be a suicide bomber.

The car is a 2015 328i that I've only had for less than 2 months and has less than a thousand miles on it. Maybe this is why it was the last 2015 model they had.

I am taking it in again next week for routine maintenance and they said they would look at it again. I told them that with all due respect...they have already "looked at it" and I would prefer that they "fix it" this time. I get the feeling that they think if they let it go long enough it will work itself out. My personality doesn't allow for that kind of patience. :)

Is this a forever thing...the clicking from the exhaust or does it stop after a certain break in time. It's driving me crazy. Had I know I would have chosen another car. People look at me like I'm a possible suicide bomber when I park the car or idle at a drive up window. You can just see that look on their faces saying you spend that much money on a car to put up with this? :)
