Wondering if anyone can help here. Can't seem to find anyone with my specific issue.

I have a 2011 740li. Rear air suspension goes out at random on while driving. First happened the other day the car was at normal ride height then all the sudden it was riding like sh*t. I got the cornering reduced message. Pulled over shut the car down for a few minutes, started back up again and the compressor came on and filled the air ride. About 5 minutes later it was back down riding dirty again. I had to start and stop all the way home. Has to be something electronic causing this. I did not get the cornering reduced message every time it drops. If I turn the car on to fill the air ride and don't drive it, it stays at normal height so something its telling the system to dump the air while driving. That's not doing me any good.

Does anyone know where the EHC controller is on this car? Thinking that may be the faulty.

Thanks for the replies.

Having same issue on my 2011 750Li. Only code I got was air pump timed out. What was happening on mine is that the pump was overheating and temporarily stopping, causing the bottoming of the rear suspension and the error message. What I did as a temporary fix to stop this bottoming from happening is pull the 5amp fuse for the air suspension after it pumps up. There are 2 listed, a 5amp and a 30 amp.
I would have to put the fuse back in about once a week to pump it back up. It would not leak down unless I drove it and hit bumps. It would be same level after sitting for the weekend, but would lose air on bumps. I have replaced the air pump now, so mine no longer bottoms out with the error, but it hasn’t stopped the system from letting air out.
I have ordered new rear level sensors but not installed yet. I think on mine one of my rear sensors is bad causing the system to let air out on the rebound of a bump but then the rear is too low and it pumps back up. On ISTA-D, I had some suspect readings on the rear sensors (I think one was -.1 and the other was -.8)
It may be that the ECU for the air suspension is bad, but the sensors are cheaper so that’s where I’m starting.

I recently had issues with ride height on my '10 750LI. One side rode low. Replaced rear right strut but system would not shoot air to passengers side. Just replaced valve block and it shoots air to both sides but the rear is jacked up (both sides). Do you think this is a programming issue? I saw you mentioned ISTA-D, what do I need to access it?

Thanks for the reply. Are the sensor side specific left/right? I have INPA but not sure how to use it yet and everything but the main page is in German. Got any instructions on looking at the sensors in INPA?

Any idea where the ECU is for the air ride control?

The controller for the air suspension is passenger side under the glove box on the right side. There is a controller that controls power to various units in the car, that one is under the fuse panel in the trunk. I purchased a leveler sensor from the dealer and they said that sensors will work on either side( according to the parts counter). I've changed the solenoid at the air pump twice, seemed ok for a day after. 1st solenoid for a short time then the left side went down again, thought maybe a defective part? Bought another solenoid but the same problem. I give up I'm taking it to an indy garage on the thirtieth. My next step would be to replace the controller, but at @ $1,000. I'm not chancing it. I also read that the suspension may need to be reprogrammed?!?!
I hope that this helps someone.

If any one is wondering it appears that the level sensors are left and right specific. I switched them a while back because of another issue I had where only one side was going down. That ended up being the solenoid. I switched them back to the original side and the problem has gone away. Or at least it has for the past 250 miles.

I know this discussion was a few years ago, but I have a 18' 750i xdrive, and only one side of mine is going down when the air ride deflates. I know you said it was a solenoid. Is that something I can fix, or is that a repair shop bill? Also, do you think it could be caused by one of the leveling sensors getting corroded/being shotty? I keep getting a limited chasis function warning.. for some reason I thought it was the leveling sensor. Any helpful arrows in the right direction will be greatly appreciated! I can't stand for it to ride dirty any longeeer.. it hurts me.

Problem came back after a week. Unplugged the controller for the air suspension and seems to be OK for now. I have another controller but apparently it takes coding to make it work. Anyone have coding instructions for the air suspension controller?

i also had the same Problem it turned out to be a solenoid cost was 28 dollars on Amazon! it wasn't the compressor BMW wanted to replace the compressor that worked just the solenoid was bad $1500 or $28.00. Have not had any problems but i do see a lot of the same part this must be a problem with these compressor.

I have replaced the solenoid twice with new ones. I thought maybe I might try one more time with one from BMW parts??

Same issue with a 2014 740li xdrive with m sport package. Compressor had a bad piston ring so replaced that. Worker great for a week. Then compressor would not shut off so had to pull the 40A fuse in and out. Now car is flat and low, compressor runs occasionally as if it’s filling but shock don’t fill and also do not leak air? Compressor blows off like it filled the shocks though? And releases air when car is turned off? Just want to fix this and sell it. Has been one part after another the last few years.

the seals in your rear shocks are bad, they all go bad, and no way to detect the leak.
i replaced both of mine because of this.
