Parking Light Stay On?

I'm still getting used to all the features in my new car. I've noticed a couple of times when I have parked it in my garage that the driving lights and tail lights have stayed on for quite some time > 1 hour. I have the light setting set to stay on for approx. 60 seconds in the vehicle settings. The main knob for the light is on auto (12 o'clock position) and the car is unlocked w door closed--I have soft close doors. To turn them off I have to lock the car.

Everything else in the car is off. Has anyone else seen this happen? Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I need to change a setting or if there is something wrong that needs the dealer to look at it.

Is only one side lit, left or right? BMW's have a true "parking light", or "standing light" function. This is meant to be used if one is parked at the side of a road and want to light the side nearest the street. On the F10 (and E90), if you move the turn signal lever to the left or right "on" position, after the car is shut off, that side's parking and taillight will illuminate. Normally, moving the lever back to the off position will cancel the lights. Could you have accidentally moved the turn signal lever while getting out of the car? As for the 1 hour, that could be a timer to be sure you don't run down the battery. If both sides of the car are lit, then I don't know what it could be.

The G30 has a different system, two individual switches by the light switch. Think in terms of the rear fog light switch on a Euro F10.

Yes I'm familiar with the L/R parking lights. This is both front and both rear lights staying on. They were all on last night for well over an hour.

Will wait for other responses, otherwise will call BMW Genius or take it into the dealer.

Yep I agree, that's what I have had to do until the issue is corrected with BMW. Even though the lights are all very energy efficient LED's it's just a matter of time until the battery get drained. Certainly don't want them on all night

Spoke with BMW Genius this AM about my issue. They advised that in the new 5 & 7 series that if I don't lock the car in my garage I need to press and hold down the radio button for several seconds to turn the lights off. Pressing the start button twice doesn't do it.

Go figure BMW would bury an important settling into an obscure control but hey guess it's their way or the highway:confused:

I don't have a G30 yet, but did download the owners manual. It's in there.

On this topic... I've noticed that if you don't lock the car, the radio will continue to play and the parking lights will stay on for a while.

Additionally, after you lock the car, the light control area will continue to stay on along with the hazard button light will continue to stay on for a few minutes. Eventually they all turn off.

The radio should turn off after you shut off engine, opened, and closed the door. The lights will be off within few minutes.

It takes a little while to get used to the logic of the ready/idle/off states of the G30 but I made a conscious effort to get my head round it when I bought the vehicle and now I quite like it. There's a seriously complex flow diagram somewhere in the technical training documents......

Long press on the volume knob is quite a neat way to shut the car electrical systems down once you're used to it. I prefer it to the 2nd press of the starter button.

It does take some time and it should be an easier process. How long do you have to press on the audio knob?

One other dealer Genius person told me pressing and hold the knob resets the iDrive system so now I'm a little confused. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.
