Receiving EGS Fault codes

I took my car to the bmw dealership and got a reading. My transmission is slipping badly and needed to know what is wrong. This slippage happened after I did a trans fluid change.

My EGS codes:
EGS 34: gear monitoring 2 (P0732)
EGS 3B: Stall speed (p0720
EGS 31: Symptom, gear monitoring
EGS 30: Conv. lockup clutch, excessive slip (p0740,p2761,p0741)
EGS 41: Gear monitoring 4 (limp-home program)

I was wondering if anyone has ever tackled these issues? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Well, since you said "any help", I'll chip in. Could it be that by some weird set of circumstances you overfilled the tranny with fluid?

I'm myself trying to battle my E39 with the only code it gives me - P0720.. no slippage, just the limp mode kicks in every time i start driving... hope you can fix the problem yourself!

I think your p0720 is probably speed sensor. Have you checked that?

Yea, if anything I might just buy a used transmission and take it to a BMW specialist and have them change the fluid.

BMW transmission is too damn complicated.

I just recently cleared the codes. The exclamation sign is still there though. I know there is a way to fix it, but i'm assuming alot of people just swap the transmission and sell the car. I am thinking of doing that as well although I really love my car very much. It's only a thought right now

Update: After a long week of headaches and delimma of whether or not I should keep my car. My car is finally running normal again. I was first experiencing about 5 EGS code issues. Limpmode and so fourth. I was able to clear the codes and let my car rest for about a couple hours. From there, I figured maybe I should start up my car to warm it up and drive it around since i was advised to do so; to let all the fluid lubriate all my clutch packs. (thanks stickbuilder for baring with me and helping me with my transmission issues.) Once i fired it up, no codes because of my reset but the exclamation sign went away. I was skeptical at first and thought to myself, I just recently reset the codes earlier, i bet it's still slipping. Once i drove off, no slip, no codes, no limpmode, and it was grabbing all gears. I even put it into manual mode and I've notice that everything was shifting the way it's suppose to be shifting. I took the car for a drive on the freeway and on the street for about 60+ miles. My car is running normal again!

Thanks again stickbuilder and to all who helped. Bimmerfest is one of the best forums out there.

forgot to mention. If your car is experiencing symptoms of slipping yet you can put the car into reverse with no problem and notice the car is still shifting gears with massive slip. Then check your connections, clean off any dirt or grease off from it and reconnect the connecters to your transmission.

Your transmission is not dead or failing, it's just in safemode or limpmode.

I was skeptical when the BMW dealership stated that I was due for a new transmission. I looked at the service advisor and told him, you gotta be kidding me?

I'm glad you got your issue fixed. It's alot of headache but it was well worth the lesson. I've learned alot about my transmission. I was constantly reading and asking for some advices here and there. Thanks again bimmerfest members.

Props to stickbuilder. If you need help or is going through transmission issues. He is the man for some quick advices

Hi, I'm sitting with the same issue. E46 2000 328i, ran a diagnostic today and got the same result. The tech say that the cause is a sensor on the gearbox that is sending the wrong speed reading to the ecu. Is this possible? :(:(:screwy::banghead::banghead:

Hi i'm currently driving a 2003 e46. My car goes on limp mode at times, but after i turn the car off and restart it, it goes away and goes back to normal. I had a fault code on the Vanos and monitoring gear 2, however after resetting everything the fault codes didn't come back. What could possibly be the problem?

Also, at high speeds, i don't have any problem. Limp mode usually pops up when i start driving from a stop and the gear seems to have a delay in shifting. I think it's either in the 1st to 2nd gear or 2nd to 3rd gear that causes the limp mode

It says 34 gear monitoring 2. However i am able to clear this, but during slow drives, or when i am in low gear, the tranny feels like it's slipping. I choose to believe however that it's not yet broken since i can still use all gears perfectly. Also, it does not happen when i am on manual mode. It only goes on limp mode during an automatic drive in low gear. It seems like the tranny is having a hard time shifting into second gear, or from second gear.. Hope you guys can help! I really don't think my tranny's broken.. Well i hope so
