Hello there.
is there any one who knows what to do when you get an error message about the pedestrian protection system. the one that will lift the hood up i case of hitting a person. I installed a engine heater and after that the error message was there. I hav´nt hit anything and the hood is still down. Can i reset it or do i have to pay BMW to do it for me? I´ve read that it is very expensive. Is it possible to reset it with any kind of diagnistic tool that you can buy? for example Foxwell NT 644?

I have another question. Is there someone out ther who knows what part this is and the funktion and location of it?

maybe its part of the problem mensioned above.

I would be very greatful if some have anwers.

A fiberoptic cable and sensor is located behind the front bumper. If the sensor detects a deformation of the bumper (even if no damage is visible afterwards), depending on speed, the hood will pop up (very expensive) or the system will disable itself.

Most likely either the fibreoptic sensor is bad, or the electrical connection is either shorted or broken.

sure.

I have removed the 8TF from VA via E-sys and code all ECUs.

Delete all faults , but i got stuck with one error: and it said, that it has PPS error, but its not in car equipment

so I had to delete the error with External Transmister..like i wrote:

I fixed the error this morning. I had low battery in remote key - not sure if that has any impact...but to be sure I have changed the battery in car key.

Unplug the FGS connector, but not sure neither, that had any impact on it , coz PPS sensor is not on FGS harness but on FOG ligt, horn harness, radiator shutter harness etc...

Then I use External Transmitter app in Essys to delete all DTC ...woalla... no Pedestrian protection error pop up ever... so far... hopefully thats final stable state

hello guys,
I have exactly the same issue on my F10, the bonnet is lifted and the horrendous PPS error on the dash.

Anyways, I am a complete novice on coding the cars, I have done actual controller coding as an electronics course but when it comes to cars I have not touched it. I have following concerns and questions so would really appreciate if you could respond so that I can do this with confidence:

1) Have you had any issues after you coded your car to remove the PPS error using this method?

2) When you say "code all ECUs" how does it actually work???

Does it work like the E-SYS software already has the code as part of the software for the specific version of F10 and it just uploads that code/software and flashes all the ECUs?

OR

You first download the software from your specific F10 onto the E-SYS software then modify it and upload the very same software back onto the F10?

I will be more concerned if I am uploading a new software to flash all the ECUs from E-SYS so the latter option is much better i-e download the current software, modify it to remove PPS option and upload it back!

3) When you say FGS harness, is that the harness for the Fibre sensor(running inside the foam on the front iron support beam) or is it the harness for the Accelerometer on the bumper?

4) What is the external transmitter app in E-SYS?

5) Do you have a reliable source where to buy the E-SYS software from with all these apps required to reset PPS?

It will be really good if someone who has done this already has created a simple idiot's guide (for people like me) with step by step instructions how to do it from the beginning to the end.

If I manage to do it with your help, I will definitely write one and post it here.

would much appreciate if you could help on my questions above. Thanks

Hi Paul,

I have recently suffered a similar situation but I have no idea how to remove the fault. In my case, I went over a speed bump which had a large pothole just after it and it triggered the system. No damage to bumper but the bonnet sprung up. I have managed to push the actuators down and have managed to close the bonnet but can not get rid of the warning.

If this is something you can do I will be willing to pay if you could help me. I don't have any coding systems and I'm afraid I do not have the knowledge to deal with it.

My car is a 640D M Sport Coupe - I really don't care if the system is disabled but can not afford to pay a fortune to have this fixed from a dealer or specialist.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello guys, same problem here. I have an 2011 Bmw 5 series F10 520D. I've hit something (a cat i believe) that triggered my pedestrian error. I bought a new one, installed, used ista/d to clear all error but the error remained. I tried to delete with esys, edited vehicle order, deleted 8TF, coded all ECUs but still getting the error. I have removed the pps connector on the right, under the headlight support, and the connector on the center behind the front bumper. I dont know what to do more than that, please help me

Hi I have the same problem but I have unconnected the two hinge/actuators the two bonnet lock connectors and the fiberoptic cable i had the pps deleted which worked but now ssr light has come on shown this to a few people and they all say there is a centre sensor that needs to be unplugged can any one show me where it is or a link to this as when we put the front end back together we didn't see it

Hi Guys,

I'm a new member from UK.

I've brought a BMW F10 which had the PPS error message on dash. Is there any chance someone could go through the instructions on how to get rid of the PPS. Apologies I am completing a novice when using E-SYS so not sure how to remove 8TF, code all ECU's etc..

Thanks

Ok, so this is what you guys need to do when you have this problem.

Remove the PPS connector from the right side under the headlight support.

Remove the connector from the center of the bumper.

Remove the two yellow connectors from the hood lock left and right.

That is all you need to do before coding the car.

After that you need to edit VO, remove 8TF option, and save you modified VO. Under the VCM upload the modified VO, click "Write FA FP" and go to EXPERT MODE -> CODING and code your ACSM module.

You need to clear the errors because you will have this errors even if you have followed all the steps above, if errors are not cleared.

Hello, what software did you use to clear and delete the errors? Thanks

Hello, so to answer your questions:

No, you should not have any issues after after

When you "code all ecu`s" Esys actually codes the ecu`s from the SVT three with your VO. So that`s why you shoul edit your VO firs and remove the 8TF option. As for this situation i don`t think you need to code all ecu`s but only the ACSM module (i don`t remember if you need to code the Kombi module and HU but you can code them just to be shure).

If you want, you can re-edit you VO after you solved your PPS error and write it back to your car, just make shure you WON`T CODE ACSM module with your original VO because you will reactivate the error.

Hi guys,
I just managed to remove the 8TF option from my car and cleared the horrendous PPS error. I must say that shawnsheridan and mmihai82 have helped me alot and would not have done it without their help! so thanks alot guys!!!!

I have one more simple question, if I connect the PPS Sensors (Fibre optic & accelerometer) harness back again with the sensors would that bring the error again or shall I just leave them disconnected and dangling?

Cheers

Code system error off

If your BMW has a front damage and Active Pedestrian Protection System is now malfunctioning, that can be fixed without expense dealership visit.
That can be coded offline and you won't get any further errors.
Following guy can do it for you and is from Scotland

Contact is 07496287374 (Call/ Text / Whatsapp)

SOS.... I followed all the instructions, but after dealing with E-sys and coding 8TF out, another "Restrain System Fault" appeared.........
I've tried to clear the faults through Ista+ but it doesn't help.
I even tried Clearing all the DTC through ESYS...
Any chance someone know why this fault appeared?
