SCARY: Car JERKS, Traction Control (DSC) light flickers, stays on

Had the crap scared out of me today. Was driving on the highway (75mph) when I felt a jerk, the car swerved (almost as if I had a flat tire), and my DSC light came on.

I've been recently having a DSC issue (for the past three days) where the DSC light flickers, then stays on and doesn't go off until I turn off the car. After I turn the car on, the light is off, but after some driving, comes back on.

What happens every single time it comes back on is I can feel some sort of "jerk" or impedance to movement of the car. Once the light stays on, there are no more problems.

I read over 8 pages of posts and the WIKI. I have NO other lights on--just the DSC. When I turn off the DSC manually, the car drives fine. I had alignment done about 6 weeks ago.

i have a 2000 323Cic with 92,000 miles on it. 5MT.

Probably a bad wheel-speed sensor (there are 4 of them).

I will look into it, as I gathered from the other posts. My concern is the jerk--seems something might be wrong mechanically, unless it's the limited rear slip diff coming on. Any thoughts?

Also, I cannot for my life find the part number of the wheel-speed sensor, on RealOem.com or PelicanParts. Is it the same thing as ABS rotational sensor?

Part of the function of the DSC is to direct more or less braking force to one particular wheel in a hard, fast turn....a bad sensor could possibly cause one brake to be applied heavily at the wrong time, causing a swerving condition. Only "M" cars have limited slip diffs...all others use a manipulation of the ABS/DSC system.

+1 top Bob's advice. Another possible culprit is a low battery. All kinds of wierd things can happen. Go have the free test done at an auto parts store, can't hurt.

im with fast bob on this one. a wheel speed sensor going wacky makes the most since. you should have a dtc in the dsc computer if that is the case. i don't know of any aftermarket scanners that can communicate with dsc module. may have to get a dealer scanner hooked up to it.

Many thanks guys. Will check my battery at Autozone and then take off the wheels and clean sensors when I change the oil. For some reason, the DSC issue went away recently...will post update on how things go.
