Sport Mode disengages automatically

Hey all!

I always drive in Sport or Sport+ mode, but on the whole ride home, the car kept switching into Normal mode on it's own, and if I pushed on the buttons, I couldn't get it to switch back to Sport, Sport+, or even Comfort. If I stopped at a stop light, I could go back to any of the other modes, but then after driving about a half block, it would automatically go back to Normal mode and not be able to be changed to anything else. Happen to any of you before?

I'm a tad overdue for service (my car said it wasn't until May 2012, but suddenly I'm overdue for the last 2 weeks, and it seems that every 25 miles I drive, it adds 100 miles to the "overdue" total... it's at 800 miles overdue right now even though I haven't driven 800 miles since it said service was due). I also need an oil change, but that's the only thing else that is going on with my car.

Any ideas?!?!

I searched multiple variations of "Sport mode switching to Normal mode" etc., but didn't find anything in the forum.

Thanks!

It seems your car is pushing you towards some dealer maintenance investments....
I ques the SA will inform you this behaviour of the car is there to protect it.

Make an appointment, get the service done, or be stuck with normal mode until you do.

The car also won't go into Sport or Sport+ when you have a low tire pressure warning.

Since your service is overdue car is not letting you use sport or sport++, the reason is in these modes your car will be more aggressive and this may harm your engine. I feel once your service is done every thing should be normal.

Guys, this whole "sport lockout due to mileage over service" is nothing but bunk. I was "overdue" for an oil change by almost 900 miles due to the dealer not resetting my counter when they did a change on the "annual" schedule, and there was no restriction with sport mode.

Take it to the dealer, you have a problem OP.

Thanks for the input everyone. I do have an appointment, but waiting for (now) drivers side door replacement sill.... posted this problem months ago about my drivers side where the silver decals on the illuminated doorsill (over the "BMW") had fallen off so instead of replacing the decals with some sort of adhesive, they replace the whole sill. :dunno:

As soon as that part is in, I'll have it in for service. On my way to work this am, it stayed in Sport mode the whole time... maybe it was just something electronic with the weird tire thing that happened yesterday. Again, all of my tires are fine despite what the TPM said. It's starting to get colder here in MN, and it seems like the electronics on my Bimmers go wacky when this happens sometimes (my new 5er and my old 7er). Anyway, I'll post back if there is something wrong and the switching out of any mode except Normal continues to happen.

Thanks!
