Stalling

A friend if mine is looking at buying a 2002 540i. Says all is good with it, great detailed records but the seller mentioned that it stalls once it reaches just under a quarter tank. Can anyone help me with this? Is this a typical problem or, an easy fix or a big deal?

Possible defect in the fuel gauge sensors; there are two, one on each side of the tank.

Have the car inspected before making an offer. These cars are not cheap to fix. It's important to fully evaluate the mechanicals before buying.
