Off topic but why the need to update the module in the first place??
I was in the process of fixing Active Steering related issues. Part of the resolution required that the vehicle VIN be updated (my AFS module is a second hand one and was reporting a VIN mismatch). I'd noticed in the User Information Field that the AFS module (plus a couple of other related modules) had incorrect VIN settings. So I flashed & updated them.

Scared the hell out of myself with all the failures that then ensued :rofl: Thankfully easily addressed by restarting the system time.

It's an interesting point that you make though. Realistically, is there any tangible benefit to having the most recent versions of software? The majority of my modules are still showing 2004.

I know this is an old thread - just adding to it in case anyone (like I was yesterday) comes looking for info to resolve the system time issue after updating airbag modules etc...

I was able to start the system time via ISTA. "Vehicle Management" > "Service Functions" > "Body". Under there you will find the necessary tasks to check the airbag modules where system time is not started, and start it up for those modules.

For some reason, on my E63 I wasn't able to use tool32 and the systemzeit_starten job. Regardless of whether I put zero arguments or put '1' I always got an error. So I just let ISTA do it for me.
Thanks for posting this, I updated my airbag modules and experiencing the same issue. Which ISTA did you use? Do you know where I could download this from?

I went through all the steps correctly and got this message. I cant get the system time to start on my szl, and when trying to do it for the sim/sgm.

An ideas on what might be going wrong?
My active steering won't start up when running the startup function in ista. And when running the function for the airbag system time they all show as started except the szl.

Do any of the items in this pic that show yyyyyyy for the vin have anything to do with that?

Getting the hang of using some of the programs but still lots to learn.

I coded every module that wasn't coded to my vin to my vin. I simply flashed the same files to them (if there wasn't an update) but entered my vin. After I had done so I then did the system time reset.

hello.

my airbag sfz is showing a 9aac fault(systemzeitfehler) after a update of the sfz, sbsr and sbsl.

Can someone pleas help?

How do i restart the systemtime?
and wich program is the best?

Have tried tool32 but only get "ecu recuirments not meet or no respons from controll unit"

all help will be very much appreciated :)

Just so everyone knows. All safety modules need system time reset after updating. Tool32 is a bit intimidating so easiest way is with ISTA.

->Operations
->Complete Identification
-> Read Errors
-> Show errors
-> Click on the error code referring to system time -> click calculate test plan
-> see the list and find system time start ABL
-> start system time with steps 1&2
->Check that all modules say: YES in step 3
-> End test with step 4
And it's done ;)

The abobe instructions was very helpful to fix the System time error on 2006 E60 530i after i replaced the SIM/SGM module. Even ISTA+ couldn't do it, but NCS expert step in the above instruction is probably the missing piece. Thank you very much for the detail instructions.

I tried resetting System time with ISTA+ on my E60 2006 530xi and it couldn't do it. I followed the above instructions and it was able to reset it. I had to replace the SGM/SIM module as i got the "Passenger restraint error". Thank you very much for the detail instructions. It is a big help . Aprpeciate the time spent putting together instructions.

I used the 'EXPERT MAN' profile while using NCS expert.

I found out my problem was the ncs update part. Had airbag light safety battery thing was faulty. "Resistance at variance" Added resustor read resistance it said 0.8 when multimeter said 2.5 took out the resistor same 0.8. replaced center satellite. couldnt get system time started then found the ncs Part i was missing

Winkfp -> zusb vin update
Ncs -->select module (for me szl and sfz) without touching just execute sg codieren
Tool32 (dont know if it even did anything) systemzeit start argument 1
And istad --> text search system time, abl start systemtime (airbag) activate satellite, activate gate, check if system time started
Clear codes

The center satellite was very problematic because it didnt give any codes most of the time. The "at variance" part made me suspect the module it self and checking the resistance it didnt change even when the resistor was removed
