Hi, I bought a 650i 6 months ago, the E64, i love it and want to upgrade the yellow halo lights, and not really the best mechanical and don't want to put my headlights in an oven or anything like that, but detaching the front bumper doesn't bother me, just wanted to know, what the best option out there, and I did search the forums, 5 pages worth but could not find the right question as some post are three years old.

Also I read that 10w - 20w LED create an error? This post was two years ago, but that 7w are alright. Any thoughts if this is still the case?

Also what other upgrades are recommended? Simple upgrades are always nice,

Example LED inside, there yellow as well should I replace with white?

Regards William.

I am not an expert on lighting mods but I can tell you errors due to LED upgrades for the halo rings has nothing to do with the wattage of the LED bulbs. Errors occur if the vendor selling the light uses an inadequate resistor which prevent the errors.

Try to find posts by members who where happy with their LEDs and had no errors, then buy the same kit. Also look for a kit with properly sealed bulbs since many of the kits out there have an open bulb housing that will result in condensation in the headlamp.

You can buy LED interior light upgrade kits. Do a search, there should be a few threads on this mod.

Other popular mods:
  • Upgrade the wheels ($1,500 to $6K)
  • Remove resonators for a bit more pronounced exhaust ($300)
  • Full cat-back exhaust upgrade if you want a lot more aggressive sound ($500-$2K)
  • Change front chrome grill to flat black ($200)
  • Upgrade the intake ($200-$1K)
  • Lowering springs or full coilovers ($200-$2K)

You'll need to learn about coding if you want to make progress on lighting. Finding products with no errors generated is hit-and-miss. It's best to learn how to get rid of them

The "Halo lights" are called Angel Eyes, or AEs. Search and you'll fine a lot of threads with good info. Be aware that with an 09' you have LCI lighting so the AE replacements are different than older models.

The aFe sounds good but probably does nothing - the aFe intake loses 5-10hp on the M6 (dyno proven) but that is a VERY different setup compared to the 650i.

The Dinan intake is expensive but should add a few HP - maybe 5-10 if you are lucky. Dinan claims 18 HP!
