Hi,
In an 07 MC I am trying to remove the flip down cover/lid in that storage box that is on the vertical wall between the seats.

The TIS states to insert a wire into a small hole on the side of the cover after removing two small screws on the cover hinges. i have the screws off and have tried the wire technique many many times without luck.

Has anyone ever removed that cover and what was your method?

I'm trying to remove that entire box but have to remove the lid first so that i can get at the two screws that are below that lid. uggggggggggg

Thanks
Jim

The only help that I can give is when they installed the phone prep kit into the car. As you know, the entire oddments cover is replaced to install the kit. When I went out to see how he was progressing, the entire rear portion of the console, from the handbrake back was removed to get to the door. It's not what you want to hear but that is what I found.

Ron,
There are two very small screws on the hinges of that storage door. I removed those with no problem since they are easy to get to.

There are also two star headed screws right under that door that also need to be removed so that i can get the entire storage box out of the car. That's way I'm trying to remove the door.

According to the TIS i need to slid in a metal rod into the small access hole on the lower left hand side of that door (as you are looking at the door). I used a coat hanger section.

I can get the rod into the hole a few inches but it that doesn't seem to do anything. I still can't get the door off.

If you have any trade secrets how to get that puppy off I'd appreciate it.

I'm in the midst of a nav retrofit on my 07 Mc and that door has to come off. :)

I don't remove the door.
I now remove the two star headed screws and remove the item with the door going with it.

I made the pin tool with the dimensions mentioned in the TIS and no cigar.

I don't remember what I used to remove them.
Maybe the T20 screwdriver.
Maybe the Sears 1/4 flex spinner (4335) with a 1/4 - 1/4 socket with a hex T20.
Maybe the angle T20 in different lengths but I don't think that I had them then.

I bought some other tools to put them back but haven't done it because I wanted to remove the changer when I added the BMW IPOD kit.
Now I'm keeping the changer since I'm researching to use it or Sirius with the BMW IPOD kit.
When I get to put them in, I might replace them with Phillips.

I removed mine a while ago.
Once the two small screws are removed you want to keep the door sort of up right as possible than pull it out wards.

Its going to feel like it will break before it pops but mine popped out just fine and i have removed it a couple of times now.

I have pulled mine off twice now and it it does feel like you are going to break it. Removed the two little screws and then just tugged....really hard.

Side note. The OEM sirius module wouldn't fit under the oddments box with the pocket below the nav drive installed.

I took a Z4MC centre console out yesterday and did the following:

- Take the two side screws out after removing the small cover plates.
- Took the 2 little philps screws out that are attached to the phone cradle lid. After removal, pulled the lid straight off (leave dangling).
- Removed the plastic cover that was hidden by the lid, slides out. Underneath two screws. Remove those.
- Remove top lid of the centre console by lifting straight up, sit in the boot is the easiest to do this.
- Remove two torx screws.
- Then the whole centre console could be removed.

I removed it to get the oddments box out and get access to the CD changer wiring for the Intravee installation.

Took 10 minutes in total for dismantlment. Let me know if you need pictures as I have them from a previous dismantling (on a roadster though).

Well all this talk about "seems like it is sbout to break" and "really expensive" to replace made me go another route.

:)

I used some really small tools and with some time and painfull fingers I managed to get those two torx screws that are under the console door out without the removing the door itself. So now I have that section off and the woofer speaker grill behind the drivers seat off. It looks like i need to remove that entire speaker panel off and not just the woofer grill.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm sure I'll have more questions.
Jim
