I need to be able to take the wiring harness off of the fuel injectors to make sure i'm getting current to the wire on cylinder 7, it would be a good idea to check my injectors while i'm at it.
i'm just not certain how to go about doing this, i took pictuers below to the right is the harness that i need to lift off of the injectors, but do i need to get the fuel rail off first?:dunno::confused:

i'm sorry if i'm not using the correct terminology.

I think they are the same, but i looked at the connection point and did not see any wire clips.
I may have to get a better light to see if there are some clips there. how were you able to get into those small areas to remove the clips?

I believe you need to pull out the metal clips first you will need a long needle nose or flathead screw driver to do this some are hard to reach. Look up a DIY for manifold replacement, or valley pan replacement they go into details. You do not remove the rails first you need to remove the connector that are under those black boxes. Best of luck

I bought six new spark plugs and will replace them when I find my round tuit.

When I do so, I may clean my fuel injectors also (if warranted).

So, please do keep us informed as to your progress (e.g., how do you plan on cleaning them?).

See also fuel-injector cleaning information here.

Well I understand the method of disconnecting the wiring harness. It is best to take the clips off of the fuel rail, and then you need to get a small flathead screwdriver, and I mean small, and unhook the wire clips from connectors so that you can pull the whole harness off of the injectors. It can be time consuming and kind of hellish on your lower back.:) but it will come apart. wondering if i should just bite the bullet and get some new injectors, any suggestions other than get the OEM injectors?

Blubee i want to thank you for giving me the links in my other post. It could be my fuel pump. but i haven't tried to test it just yet....working up the gumption to do it.

Welcome to team advil!!!!

As far as injectors I would stick with Bosch five-o motorsports has them. There is an upgraded version I believe to OEMor so they claim. Not sure if there is really any advantage to them or not though.

I have never worked on fuel injectors, so take this for what it's worth.

In the VERY best of E39 Links other people have put the following fuel-injector links which may come in handy.

Even if not, whatever YOU find out should then be ADDED to the bestlinks so that the NEXT person (me perhaps?) won't have the problems you're having!

Here is the procedure I used to find these threads:

  1. I clicked on the VERY best of E39 Links (SEE NOTE 1)
    • Note 1: It's more efficient when you set your Bimmerfest control panel to the maximum number of posts per page so a single search will find what you need. Click on your Bimmerfest "User CP -> Edit Options -> Number of Posts to Show Per Page -> 80 -> Save Changes".
  2. I pressed my operating system "find" hotkey (i.e., "control f" in Windows & Linux & "command f" on the Mac) (SEE NOTE 2)
    • NOTE 2: With Firefox, the slash (/) hotkey, in addition to "control f", does the same search, without the extra overhead.
  3. I typed the search term, e.g., "injectors" (sans quotes) & the cursor focus jumped to the first match it found (SEE NOTE 3)
    • NOTE 3: On Windows & Linux, the "F3" hotkey will jump to the next find; "shift F3" will reverse the find; "enter" will open the current link. If the search fails, the search term will highlight in red. (Mac users, please let me know what keys you use.)

What references should we add to this list in order to help others?

As always, each thread should improve our knowledge ... so the next person stands on our shoulders ... each thread improving upon the previous.

I think our fuel-injection information is lacking tremendously.

But, doing the best I can myself (having never touched mine), what would you do to improve this (admittedly lousy) starter set of links?

- How to understand (1) (2); remove (1) (2) (3); inspect (1); test (1); and clean (1) (2) (3) (4) your BMW E39 fuel injection system; & where to buy fuel injectors (1) (2) (3).

Note: We need better references!

Thanks again for all the information, if i do decide to tackle this project, will be more than happy to provide any and all procedures that I used. Still wondering if it is the fuel pump, kind of get a clicking noise close to the fuel hose that attaches to the fuel rail. excuse my ignorance, but, doesn't fuel injections systems have to fuel hoses, one for return?

Still wondering if it is the fuel pump
I think you already know this, but, for others reading who need to diagnose a fuel pump:
