Blower Motor Noise is Driving Me Crazy!

I just bought a 1990 325i that was abused by several previous owers. I'm trying to nurse it back to health!

One problem is that the blower motor makes a rattling noise when ever the car is running.

Is that motor suppose to run all the time? I thought it only ran when you turned it on???

I was able see the blower fan from the engine compartment, but it does not look like I can take it out from there.

Do I need to take it out from the inside? I hope I don't have to take off the dash and all that!

You have to take the cover off right on the firewall, under the bulk head. This also gives you access to the wiper motor. It has a cover, 2 flaps, and a metal band holding it in. If you have any mechanical aptitude, it should be pretty straight forward once you get the cover at the firewall off.
