Bad DISA w/o codes?

Hey guys,

Had a question about my DISA. I swapped out my old intake boots earlier today as well as cleaning the ICV and throttle body. In the process of cleaning and replacing everything, part of the process obviously includes removing the DISA. A while ago I had run across this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cglRUWQ46uU&feature=related.
Remembering this, I decided to test the DISA, and it would not hold the pressure. This makes me assume that the DISA is bad. Am I correct in this assumption? If I am, then my next question is: Is it possible to have a bad DISA and have no codes or symptoms of any kind? Idle is fine, no issues when driving, no low gas mileage or anything. So not sure if I should just ignore it until I run across symptoms or swap it for a new one at my earliest convenience.

TIA for any input gentlemen.

You wn't get any codes because the vac leak is not that large and there is no external vac connection. It is all internal to the electrically operated vac diaphragm, other wise a larger vac leak would trigger lean, misfire, or O2 codes. The electric part of the DISA is working otherwise you would get codes.

The concern with continuing to use the old one, aside from the fact that it's NFG, is that the plastic butterfly may fail next which will result in the engine possibly ingesting the plastic and possibly the metal pin. That would make for a bad day in the life of the engine and your wallet.

Replace it. You will probably notice a difference in drivabilty & fuel milage after you install the new DISA.

Thanks. I guess I'll jump on that as soon as I find a good price for a new one, or save up for the average price :(. Oh well, better to have caught it now, then later when it could have been worse.

$172 @ ECS. A really decent price. Most places are around $200.

Yea I saw that, and Tischer has it for a bit more, but with shipping and stuff comes to about even. And Tischer is local, so may end up getting it from them when I'm ready.

Thanks for posting that video.

It's not the most eloquent of DIYs, but it should suffice.

I'll take the liberty of adding it to the bestlinks as follows:
