We will attempt a repair on them for $350. We cant gaurantee a 100% fix on all clusters. There is a point at which it wont be repairable, Then we would just refund you the $350.

Let us know if your interested.

I only have a line of pixels out across the radio channel only. My bet is you will have a lot of response here.

www.vdorepair.com charges $299 for cluster repair, and warrantees the work for life. I think they do the radio for around $250.

They have not updated the website, if you actually go through the order process, it clearly states "lifetime warranty" for $299. I emailed them to confirm that fact.

BTW, I have not actually used them. I recently had mine done at BMW Seattle, having a refurbished cluster installed using BMWNA's "goodwill" discount of 50% off part and I pay 100 % of labor. Total came to $452 with tax and they did it while I waited. Includes 2 year unlimited mileage BMW warranty.

Hey you guys, I just posted this one also.

VDOREPAIR.COM will do the repair for you. Like I said, they offer a life time warrantee and they are really good with emails and answering questions. I just did mine through them about a month ago and it works perfect.

You pay for the shipping to them, they fix the problem with the life time warrantee, and that price also includes them shipping it back to you. The person I've been emailing with is Annett, she great with answering questions.

I'm confused.

Can the OP clarify what they offer (with pricing) for:
- Instrument cluster pixel repair
- MID pixel repair

Most of us (but not all) had the instrument cluster replaced under warranty (I did) and whatever they did, seems to have held; but almost all of us (if not all) have MID pixels going out line by line.

The OP seems to be about the instrument cluster while the discussion seems to be about the MID.

Can you clarify? thanks!

they seem to be willing to repair either the cluster or mid for 35-0

Instructions for removal of the instrument cluster to replace the small bulbs responsible for proper mileage display was covered today here:
- E39 (1997 - 2003) > Mileage dimmly lit inside instrument cluster

The cluster comes out in 10 min or less.
Put the steering column down and out, pull off the two wood trim stips below the cluster.
There are 3 screws at the top inside edge of the cluster and the two screws under the wood trim strips.
The cluster will pull right out, just disconnect the cables and change the bulbs.

For the record, a user figured out why his CEL didn't light today:
Thank you for the help with this issue. If I could have the guy that I bought the car from in front of me right now I would strangle him. It turns out that my CEL was working just fine. The bananahead before me felt it was OK to cover the CEL indicator with a piece of tape. (see photo) Issue resolved and I also want to thank VDORepair.com for letting me know that it is not uncommon for the indicator to be covered up before selling the vehicle.

Yet another thread where the CEL light doesn't glow at P2 on the ignition ...
No CEL at P2. I guess the bulb is burned out or some enterprising individual removed it. :dunno:

I checked the voltage at the CEL connector. With the sensor unplugged the front pin is ground (0v), middle and rear pins have 12v.

Is it possible the DME is bad???

Anyone know if BMW is still giving "good faith" discounts?
Should be in here ...
- What are 'all' options when your instrument cluster or MID pixels slowly die due to a press-fit pink electrical-connection tape lifting off its contacts over time (1)

EDIT:
just finished repairing "seat twist" issue. What a pain!
Please update the seat twist thread:
- How to fix seat cables fall out causing seat twist

BTW, I have both sides seat twist myself, so, I'd love to know more how you fixed it (but put it in that thread above).

I called BMWNA today and they said they'd give me 50% off, but I have to have it done at BMW shop...I presume I pay all labor.

From another post on this site:

To attempt to receive a goodwill replacement cluster...one should FIRST contact a BMW NA customer service rep by calling their toll free nbr: 1-800-831-1117. Ask to speak to a rep and tell them that you are having an issue with your BMW's instrument cluster. Have your car's VIN ready and also info about how long you've owned the car, the local BMW dealership you're prepared to do business with, and a contact number where they can reach you. Hopefully, you will be offered some type of "goodwill" (which is at BMW NA discretion)...of a percentage that they will pay for the instrument cluster and a percentage of labor you must pay. You can accept their offer or reject it...it's your choice, and their goodwill of offering anything at all on a component that they are not legally required to replace since the vehicle is OUT of its warranty period.

For the record, there is another thread today where the OP suspects the PO removed the CEL/SES LED or covered it with black tape, as shown in the posts above:
> E39 (1997 - 2003) > cluster bulb
my "check engine" light doesn't show up at all(blown bulb or broken wire behind cluster?).to my mind it was disabled by previous owner.
question is:how can i fix it?Are these bulbs soldered or replaceable
